Investment 2000 is an Australian investment
promotion strategy closely linked to the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
The partners in Investment 2000 - Westpac Banking Corporation,
Telstra Corporation Limited, and the Australian and New South Wales
Governments - intend to capitalize on the international exposure
generated by the Olympics to attract foreign direct investment to
Australia. To support this objective, Investment 2000 has been
formally endorsed by both the Sydney Organizing Committee for the
Olympic Games (SOCOG) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Through a phrased, relationship-driven strategy, Investment 2000
aims to increase awareness of Australia's growing role as an
integral part of many multinationals' 'value chain' strategies for
the Asia Pacific Region. As part of this approach, specific case
studies, personal testimonials and site visits are being used to
provide examples of companies who have already chosen Australia as
the location for at least some part of their regional operations and
the strategic benefits of that decision.
During the past two years, Investment 2000 has introduced the 'new'
Australian investment proposition to around 1500 companies in
Europe, North America and Asia. Over 200 of these have subsequently
visited Australia to take part in a series of unique business
programs which provide international business leaders with a most
time and cost effective opportunity to evaluate Australia's
potential as a regional business location. These visits themselves
have been the catalyst for a growing number of new investment
decisions.
