The merger of BP Amoco and Atlantic Richfield
(ARCO) in April 2000 created a single company with a significant commitment
to Indonesia and to the development and commercialization of the
country's abundant energy resources. Since July 2000, the name of
our new company is 'BP'.
Our two companies have operated in Indonesia for 30 years as PSCs to
PERTAMINA, and investors in the country's petrochemicals, and coal
industries. Together with our partners, we have spent over $7bn in
Indonesia. With PERTAMINA and our partners, the combined company now
produces 10% of Indonesia's oil, supplies 65% of Java's current gas
requirements and generates $1.3bn per year of revenues for the
benefit of the Indonesian people. Together with PERTAMINA we have
also found world class gas fields in Irian Jaya. These have the
potential to create even more wealth for Indonesia in the years
ahead.
Both BP and ARCO have had long partnerships with Indonesia and
excellent records of success as production sharing contractors, gas
suppliers to the domestic sector, producers of petrochemicals, and
as developers of coal resources. We have also been active in the
exploration, production, refining, marketing, supplying and
transporting of crude oil and petroleum products, and given BP's
strong commitment to the environment, BP Solar is also growing in
Indonesia.
Our new firm has brought together two well-established companies
with strong traditions in providing the best for our customers while
maintaining stringent health, safety and environmental standards,
and working in partnership with government and local communities.
